Official Opening of the Jubilee Coastal Path
Campbeltown Community Council were made aware of the overgrown state of the path between the Trench Point and Slatyfarlan Sewage works late in 2021. Early in 2022 it was suggested that we should do something to mark the platinum jubilee of Queen Elizabeth II. It was decided that the restoration of the path would be a suitable tribute from Campbeltown. However, we misjudged how long it would take us to complete the project. Our first problem was locating the landowner and we have to thank Mr Patrick Stewart for his help with this. Secondly, planning was it or wasn’t it required? We initially intended it to be a cycle path, but modern cycle paths have to be much bigger, which would not have fitted in with the landscape, so we simply requested that we restore only the established path. Then we had to find the finance. We must thank Campbeltown Community Windfarm Fund, Campbeltown Common Good Fund, Tesco Community Fund, Springbank Distillery and the Crown Estates. It was the end of 2023 before this all came together and construction of the path took place in January and February, with thanks to Jamie McLean. A final short delay occurred while the new bridge was galvanised and put in place. Thanks to DM Fabrications, Argyll Signs and Callum McKinven. Apart from those already mentioned, particular thanks must go to Alan Baker from Campbeltown Community Council who supervised the whole project
It has been a long haul, but we got there. Campbeltown Community Council hope that locals and tourists will enjoy this lovely walk, but please remember, bag your dog’s poo and take your litter home.
