Welcome to the Campbeltown Community Council Website
Campbeltown Ceann Loch Chille Chiarain, known affectionately as ‘The Wee Toon’ has more than half of Kintyre’s inhabitants with a population of approximately 4600. The town was founded around 1609 by Archibald the 7th Duke of Argyll.
Campbeltown is one of five areas in Scotland categorised as a distinct malt whisky producing region, and is home to the Campbeltown single malts. At one point it had over 30 distilleries and proclaimed itself “the whisky capital of the world”. At present there are only three active distilleries: Glen Scotia, Glengyle, and Springbank. However, the future of Campbeltown’s whisky industry is looking bright again, with plans going ahead for three more distilleries; Witchburn, Machrihanish and Dal Riata along with the expansion of the 195 year old Springbank Distillery.
Campbeltown Community Council serves an area stretching from Sound of Kintyre in the West to Auchinhoan in the East, Lussa Loch in the North to Killellan Park in the South
The council meets on the second Tuesday each month, in Campbeltown Town Hall at 7.30 pm and all are welcome to attend.
