Minutes of Meeting 14th April 2026

  1. Welcome and committee business

V Nimmo welcomed everyone to the meeting.

  1. Apologies

Apologies were received from A Stewart and E Glendinning.

  1. Declarations of interest

V Nimmo reminded members to declare any interest they had in an agenda item as it was reached.

  1. Review of minutes of previous meeting and matters arising

The minutes were agreed: proposed by C McCulloch, seconded by J Martin.

There were no updates to report under Resilience and the Sanda Fish Farm.

For Regeneration, j MacCallum said that he was organising a public meeting on Community Benefit Societies at the Town Hall on April 30th.

A Stewart, our Press Officer, was congratulated on the piece she wrote for the Courier about our March meeting.

  1. Public questions

None.

  1. Police report

The monthly written report covering MAKI was received from PC Sharon Carr. CC members noted particularly the sections on the increase in theft from farms and the use of drones to scout out potential targets. Action: A Stewart to include Police Scotland advice in the next press release.

  1. SKDT update

Members continued to express their concern over the state of affairs at SKDT. We understand that the Development Trust Association of Scotland (DTAS) have provided a report on options for the future which will be discussed by the SKDT Trustees on Thursday 16th. We hope to hear some positive news soon.

  1. Patient Transport

Following the presentation by Mid-Argyll Transport Volunteers at our March meeting, V Nimmo has spoken to both Shopper-Aide and the hospital to see whether a similar service here would tread on any toes. Susan Paterson from Shopper-Aide has confirmed that they do offer services to patients over 60 for local appointments, including medical ones. They do no go further afield. Gillian Neal, Local Area Manager for Kintyre and Islay, Argyll and Bute Health and Social Care Partnership, will attend our May meeting.

  1. Councillor’s report

Cllr Armour apologised for the brevity of his report, due to illness. He noted that the recent budget has allocated £12m for specific repairs to roads for 2026 and another £12m for 2027. A further £620k was unallocated at present, but may be raided to cover cost increases due to the Gulf war.

Community Council members noted in particular the state of the roads at Kilkerran Cemetery, and wondered if the planning of the roads being repaired could be used there. Cllr Armour promised to investigate. Action: P Crook to draft a letter to Argyll and Bute Council noting the rise in funeral costs and asking if some of the funds raised could be diverted to the roads.

A Baker reported a delay in repairing the Jubilee Path, for which funds were agreed at the March meeting, due to the owner of Low Askomil Farm blocking vehicle access to the shore. A way round is being sought.

  1. Correspondence

V Nimmo has circulated all correspondence to CCC members. She highlighted the following:

  • An offer from a charity to provide defibrillators. Action: J MacCallum will map the existing defibrillators, and then we can consider if we need more;
  • A letter from Ailsa Clark (InspirAlba) inviting us to send a representative to a meeting on “Repowering Opportunities”. Members are unavailable to attend.
  1. AOCB

J MacCallum attended the Airport Users Forum and said there a nothing relevant to report back.

The CC agreed to a proposal from A Baker to continue the contract to cut the Jubilee Path three times this year.

J MacCallum informed the CC that the MACC Business Park would like to have a member of the Community Council on their Board. Action: All members to consider volunteering.

V Nimmo informed the meeting that she would be stepping down as Convenor at the AGM.

  1. Date of next meeting

The AGM will be held on Tuesday May 12th, in the Town Hall at 7.30pm. It will be followed by our normal monthly meeting.
