- Police report and structure of future reports
Sgt Abel said data for January were being checked and would be available soon. Campbeltown has a relatively low level of youth crime, which is good to hear. There followed a general discussion about policing levels in the town – it is the same everywhere, and there is no easy solution. Sgt Abel assured us that the police were working for the community, even when out of sight – and stressed once again that information from the community was really valuable. A Baker remarked that a local number to call (rather than 101) would make a big difference, and Sgt Abel will take that message back.
In terms of the reports we currently receive, we are content with the format but would like to have previous months shown alongside the current one, to better assess changes in crime levels.
- Councillor’s report
Cllr Armour talked first about the flooding in Castleacres. He was pleased to note that Council officers had visited residents and had agreed to investigate whether the historic drainage had been damaged by the new works. The designers are reviewing the incidence of flooding against what was expected; and they will also monitor rainfall amounts. Cllr Armour stressed that the new scheme was not designed to stop the playing fields flooding; and that it was working well at the Hillside end of town.
Cllr Armour noted that safety barriers in Summerhill Crescent are to be erected.
Regarding the visitor levy, councillors voted against changing the current proposals since they may be amended by the Scottish Government. That should be done before parliament rises at the end of March, and then the proposals can be re-examined. Four more business representatives have been added to the Shadow Visitor Levy Forum.
Finally, Cllr Armour advised that the budget meeting would take place on February 25th.
