Minutes of Meeting 14/5/24

Welcome: V Nimmo welcomed everyone to the meeting. She also thanked Ella for considering joining CCC as a co-opted member of CCC.

  1. Minutes of last meeting 9/4/24

The minutes were agreed as accurate and proposed by C McCulloch, seconded by A Gallacher.

 

  1. Matters arising
  • Event to support members of public to complete NHS Highland Campbeltown Pharmacy proposal not been organized.
  • CCTV camera – A Baker contacted Police, told it was Argyll and Bute Council’s responsibility. One camera doesn’t rotate, picture quality is poor.

Cllr Armour agreed to contact Sheena McLean from A&B Council.

  • Correspondence – V Nimmo asked I Mitchell again not to copy members of the CCC into his emails to Council Officers. If he wishes to inform CCC members, emails should be sent only to V Nimmo.
  • Bus shelters at Meadow Park and Meadows Ave – info received that these should be erected in June.
  • Planning concerns – letter sent to K Flanagan by V Nimmo has been acknowledged but no reply as yet.
  • Number of road closures – reply circulated.

 

  1. Public Questions

Campbeltown Pharmacy

A Kazam gave a brief update. The 3 pharmacists have been very proactive and have received a great response. There are only 3 weeks left to complete survey online preferably. The letter of support sent by V Nimmo on behalf of CCC to NHS Highland has been acknowledged. C Dobbie noted that Lochgilphead has 2 pharmacies serving a smaller population.

 

Kintyre Way

J Fulton and A Milstead gave an update on developments since 2017 when the Kintyre Way was given SCIO (Scottish Charitable Incorporated Organisation) status by the Charities Commission. In 2019 Friends of the Kintyre Way was established with over 160 members, 30 of whom actively carry out maintenance. There are also 27 businesses involved as supporters of KW.  SCOTO who promote and develop community tourism held 14 consultation events along the route with over 150 attending. They have produced a report including a 5-year financial plan which they will send to CCC.

V Nimmo thanked the KW members for their attendance and input and wished them continued success.

  1. Police Report

Received by email. Concern again discussed of young people misusing bus passes as discussed at March meeting.

V Nimmo to write to Police and West Coast Motors.

 

  1. Councillor’s Report

Cllr Armour expressed his sadness at the passing of Cllr R Currie from Islay who had served on Argyll and Bute Council for 40 years and as Council Leader until recently.

  • CGS: Cllr Armour attended last week’s meeting of the Parent Council which is very supportive of K Donnelly, HT. There are still concerns re behaviour and plans are being formulated to work with all parents to support a ban on the use of mobile phones in classes.
  • Burnside Square planters and street furniture now installed, not sure who’s going to maintain these.
  • Millknowe Terrace ACHA flats: planning was agreed yesterday to replace windows hopefully before winter due to dampness problems.
  • Campbeltown Nursery: received a very good Care Inspection recently and all staff and parents are to be congratulated.
  • Levelling Up Fund: Argyll and Bute Council have submitted 10 proposals to be considered by UK Govt, 2 of which are in CCC area:

Extending New Quay

 

Cllr Armour concluded by saying that he has taken on a role in the administration of A&B Council as Policy Lead for Roads, Amenities and Transport. He is proposing that the Council Officer, Head of Roads, meet with Community Councils at regular intervals to discuss plans.

 

Members raised further planning concerns – C’town Pharmacy have applied to install a wheelchair accessible ramp, new distillery at MACC been delayed due to planning delays.

A Baker asked that white lines need to be repainted at blind corner in New Quay St before an accident occurs.

A Gallacher asked about funding for the Robert Black Memorial Helipad. SKDT are responsible but receive donations from a number of fundraising events.

 

 

  1. Treasurer’s Report

A claim will be submitted shortly to SSE Tangy Wind Farm for approx. £3,000. The accounts have been audited in preparation for the AGM.

The Quesada memorial needs a new plaque. An application to be submitted to CCWF.

  1. Correspondence

All correspondence circulated to members.

 

  1. Trench Point Path

The bridge is now in place. 5 signs were erected, one has been unscrewed and removed. A& B Council won’t empty a bin at sewage works so there won’t be any bins provided.

It was agreed to have an official opening of “The Jubilee Coastal Path” the week commencing 3rd June with refreshments provided.

Invitations to be sent to contractors J Mclean, DM Fabrication and G Bennie, and funders Crown Estates, Springbank, Tesco.

 

 

  1. AOCB

Ella offered her help and support to CCC eg with website and social media.  It was unanimously agreed to co-opt Ella on to the Community Council.

  • The 30th anniversary of the Chinook disaster will be held at the crash site on 2nd All members of CCC are invited.
  • The number of camper vans parking on the esplanade highlighted the problem of waste disposal.

E Spence from SKDT to be invited to next meeting to update on progress with the Community Action Plan including the provision of waste disposal.
