- Councillors” Reports
See attached report from Cllr Kean who sent her apologies.
Cllr Armour gave the following updates:
Towncentre flooding – gullies have been cleared by Council but there are ongoing problems in Bolgam St, Saddell St and Main St outside TOFFS. CCC to write to Scottish Water.
Witchburn Rd hole in wall – Council chasing insurance of person who knocked down wall before repair can be carried out.
Barrier removed today at junction of Tomaig Rd/Witchburn Rd.
White lining roads due to start 24Nov.
Remembrance Service held on Sunday was well attended. J McCallum was thanked by E Glendinning for laying wreath on behalf of CCC. A new wreath racking rail has been installed to hold wreaths in place, funded by sponsored walks by Emilie Willis, aged 7. Well done Emelie.
Old Quay is now open to traffic after upgrade involving piling works, dredging etc, providing deep water berthing. Council funded total cost of £6.4million, carried out by Dawson Wam on time and on budget They also supported several local causes such as Christmas Lights and football pitches through the Community Benefits scheme. The number of parking bays has been reduced to permit access to boats with more bays still to be painted.
Questions
JM asked why road closures on A83 started at 7pm. Very disruptive. Also why there is single file traffic on RABT when there is no work being carried out. Advised to write to BEAR Scotland to ask.
Barrier at Newgrove – chimney unsafe – dispute as to who is responsible
Should be a STOP sign driving from Longrow to join A83 at Aqualibrium Ave – several near misses witnessed.
Trees overhanging roads – BEAR responsible for A83, other roads unclear whether the Council or landowner is responsible.
A McMillan asked about funding for replacement pads for defibrillator in Stewarton Hall. Advised to apply to Community Council, windfarm funds.
- Treasurer’s Report
A Gallacher emailed the following:
Main account £12,891.15
Quesada account £1985.20
CC Windfarm Fund £53,591plus £15,238.59 in Savings Account.
Last night at meeting of CC Windfarm Fund £51,126 was awarded to 15 different organisations.
- Kintyre Revival
J McCallum and J McGown explained their objective of bringing empty, abandoned or ownerless commercial buildings in the town centre back into use and circulated their “Blueprint for the revival of Campbeltown.” They have set up Kintyre Revival CIC ( Community Interest Company) and have been meeting with several Argyll and Bute Council Officers, Crown Estates ( KLTR – King’s and Lord Treasurer’s Remembrancer in Scotland). Their next step is to set up a Community Benefit Society to help attract much larger funds from eg Scottish Land Fund, Architectural Heritage Fund, National Lottery Heritage Fund.
It was unanimously agreed that since 2020, when Campbeltown was voted SURF’s most improved place, there had been a serious decline in the town centre and E Glendinning commended them on the work they have carried out thus far and asked that their request for funding be put in writing and submitted to the CC before the next meeting.
