Minutes of Meeting 12/11/24

Welcome             V Nimmo welcomed everyone to the meeting. Congratulations were extended to Cllr J Kean ( Kelly) whose wedding took place in September.

  1. Minutes of last meeting 8/10/24

  1. Matters arising

V Nimmo and Cllr J Armour attended an online hearing concerning the application for a new local pharmacy on 1/11/24. A good presentation was made by the applicants. J Armour made a presentation on behalf of Campbeltown Community Council. No presentation was made by Boots. The outcome of the hearing will be received in writing within 15 days.

Road closures have been brought to the attention of the MAKI meeting. Reply received.

Footpath at Millknowe was also brought to the attention of the MAKI meeting. Reply received.

Hire of Victoria Hall. V Nimmo has received prices for Sports, Private and Commercial hires and details about bar levies and staffing at events.

  1. Councillor’s Report

Cllr J Kean made her report, some of the issues discussed included:

  • Road subsidence at Kildalloig.
  • Road lining of resurfaced roads in the town has been competed.
  • Resurfacing of The Cutting.
  • Parking issues at Smith Drive/ Ralston Road. Police Scotland have been notified. Still to hear back from them.
  • ACHA ground maintenance in Davaar Ave/Calton Ave. Argyll and Bute legal team now on the case.
  • Lochend Street Playpark. Concerns over slippy mats. These have now been cleaned.
  • Jock’s Adventure Playground. Repairs ongoing.
  • Kilkerran Cemetery. Talks are still ongoing with M.O.D.
  • MAKI December meeting will be held in Campbeltown Community Centre.

CCC members raised the following questions with Cllr Kean:

A Baker: Is the cycle path being continued along The Prom?  – Yes, towards the Ferry Terminal.

J Martin: Where does the 30 mph start and finish in Machrihanish. – Cllr Kean will check this.

Cllr T MacPherson has been asked if the new PINGO Bus is a service bus. This needs to be clarified. Some people are being referred to an app, which they don’t have or have difficulty accessing/using. – Cllr Mc Pherson will check this.

 

  1. Treasurer’s Report

Main account:    £15,785.97 ( £1,152 for Plaque & £692.29 for Town Centre)

Quesada:           £510

CCWF:               £97,946.27 ( £41,198.28 was agreed to be awarded to a number of organisations with the possibility of another £18,000 being awarded.)

 

A Baker reported that he’d spoken to William McCallum who has £1,200 for maintenance of The Quesada Memorial. William has intimated that he wants to combine this amount with the £510 Quesada fund held by CCC. This was agreed.

  1. Correspondence

All correspondence had been circulated to members.

Offer from AliEnergy to talk to CCC about their remit. It was agreed to take up this offer.

Scottish Govt. re. Planning permission for Breackerie Wind Farm. CCC has already objected to this.

Clachaig Glen has received lots of objections from local people. To date these have been ignored. There are six councils involved in Clachaig Glen. If we don’t take up the offer it will be offered to Forestry Scotland. We will not benefit during the first ten years whilst the loan is being paid back.

Southwark Development have suggested that Campbeltown Airport  could include flights across the Atlantic. Do they have the support of CCC? This was agreed in principle.

I Mitchell had some questions about the Breackerie Windfarms Community Benefit Fund. Some discussion followed. I Mitchell also highlighted the dangers involved with battery storage.

Change of CCC meeting night from Tuesday to Monday to facilitate attendance of Campbeltown Courier reporter. V Nimmo will check with Hannah at ‘The Courier’

Erosion of Jubilee Path. A Baker has checked the path and it needs more rock armour (big stones)  and concrete to mend it. There is some damage just before the gate at the end of the path. Members agreed to spend no more than £1,000 to sort the problem. A Baker will contact the original contractor.

No tenders have come forward for the clearing of the path. It was decided to advertise in ‘The Courier’.

Afternoon Teas to mark the end of WW2 in 2025. CCWF will fund 150 boxes.

Cathie Duncan’s Memorial Bench. CCWF will fund the cost and erection of the bench. V Nimmo will check with The Campbeltown Hospital re the best position for the bench in the grounds.

Letter of thanks will be sent to G Rahman for displaying and dismantling the flag displays around the town during the summer. George kindly did this without payment.

Cllr T MacPherson reported on the following:

  • The flagpole at the top of the quay has now been mended. Permission should be sought before a flag can be flown.
  • No prior notice had been given to inhabitants in Limecraigs re tree felling.
  • Kilkerran Cemetery entrance drains have been backfilling. These were cleared by the council. Scottish Water will now take responsibility.
