Democracy matters

The Scottish Government are currently consulting on the future of local governance.

Somebody, somewhere, is making decisions on your behalf.  Nationwide there is a great desire by people for much greater control over what happens in the places they know best.  This is a scenario which we know well in Campbeltown.  Decisions are made in Lochgilphead, Helensburgh etc. with little regard to the effect they may have here in Campbeltown or what is needed locally.

The Scottish Government is now asking people across Scotland to have conversations in their communities based on the new Democracy Matters material.

Campbeltown Community Council believe that it is important that the people of Campbeltown and South Kintyre have their say before they reply to this consultation on their behalf, so a public meeting is being held in the SKDT Hall in Kirk Street on Tuesday 16th January 2024 from 6.30ppm to 8.30pm.  Tea, coffee and biscuits will be available.  It is important that we have a good attendance to get as wide a range of views as possible.  We don’t promise that the Scottish Government will listen to us, but a good turnout could possibly show Argyll & Bute Council officials how isolated/neglected our community often feels.
